Hyundai and Kia Surpass 100,000 Electric Vehicle Sales Milestone in the United States

PASUNDAN EKSPRES – South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor Co. and its sibling company, Kia Corp., have reported that their combined sales of electric vehicles utilizing an exclusive electric platform have surpassed 100,000 units in the United States over the past two years.

According to both companies, as reported by Yonhap on Sunday (11/5), a total of 101,976 Hyundai and Kia vehicles utilizing the global modular electric platform (E-GMP), designed specifically for electric vehicles, have been sold in the United States from December 2021 to October 2023.

These two companies have marketed four E-GMP-based models in the United States, namely the Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, and Genesis GV60, since the debut of the Ioniq 5, the first model developed using the E-GMP platform, in North America in December 2021.

During this period, the most popular model has been the Ioniq 5, a compact electric crossover, with total sales reaching 51,420 units, followed by the EV6 with 36,838 units, the Ioniq 6 with 9,557 units, and the Genesis GV60 with 4,161 units.

Hyundai and Kia have also collectively sold more than 200,000 environmentally friendly vehicles in the United States during the period from January to September this year.

Both automakers have sold a total of 213,270 environmentally friendly vehicles in the US in the first nine months, marking a 61.6% increase from the 131,986 units sold during the same period last year.

The figures achieved by Hyundai and Kia also surpass the annual sales of 182,627 environmentally friendly vehicles in the US in 2022.
