PASUNDAN EKSPRES– The Jakarta Regional Distribution Unit (UID) of the State Electricity Company (PLN) has successfully collaborated with students from SMKN 1 and SMKN 26 Jakarta to convert two oil-fueled vehicles into electric-powered ones as part of the Electric Vehicle Conversion (Elvis) Phase 2 program.

The converted vehicles include a GranMax minibus by SMKN 1 Jakarta students and a Jimny Katana by SMKN 26 Jakarta students.

The Elvis program, held in conjunction with the 78th National Electricity Day, received support from the Jakarta Provincial Education Department.

“We are extremely proud of the students from SMKN 1 and SMKN 26 Jakarta. We are also grateful to PLN for supporting this conversion program. Hopefully, the experiences gained by these vocational school students will serve them well in the future,” said Acting Head of the Jakarta Provincial Education Department, Purwosusilo, during an interview in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The converted GranMax has a range of 160 kilometers, an average speed of 60 kilometers per hour, and requires approximately 8 hours for battery charging.

On the other hand, the converted Jimny Katana can cover a distance of 180 kilometers at an average speed of 60 kilometers per hour, with a battery charging process taking around 8 to 9 hours.

The high enthusiasm from the students has led to the inclusion of electric vehicle conversion as part of the school’s extracurricular activities.

The Head of SMKN 26 Jakarta and Chairman of the Elvis Program, M Bakri Akkas, stated that the conversion of the two electric vehicles proceeded smoothly.

“Alhamdulillah, both vehicles converted by SMKN 1 and SMKN 26 Jakarta were successfully converted within a span of 3 months. Many experiences and lessons were gained by vocational school students, accompanying teachers, and myself as the school’s head,” Bakri remarked.

Lasiran, the General Manager of PLN UID Jakarta Raya, commended the students from SMKN 1 and SMKN 26 Jakarta for converting these oil-fueled vehicles into electric ones.
