PASUNDAN EKSPRES – PT Honda Prospect Motor (HPM) has firmly articulated their vision for electrified vehicles in Indonesia, commencing with the launch of several hybrid vehicle models this year.

“Our approach has always followed a pattern of research, introduction, expansion, and maturation. Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles have matured, hybrids have progressed from research to introduction, and by the end of this year, we will launch another product,” remarked Sales & Marketing and After Sales Director of PT HPM, Yusak Billy, during a meeting with Indonesian journalists in Sapporo, Japan, on Monday, October 30.

It is noteworthy that Honda unveiled the Honda CR-V Hybrid at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2023 in August.

Billy underscored their commitment to continuously bring electrified vehicles to Indonesia in the coming years.

Honda, he added, aims to achieve net-zero emissions or carbon neutrality across all their products globally by the year 2040. He also revealed the company’s production target of 3 million electrified vehicles by 2030.

However, Billy acknowledged that each country faces unique challenges contingent upon available infrastructure.

Some obstacles on the path to electrification include limited production, high component prices, and the dearth of available models.

Honda has taken initial steps to tackle these challenges by launching the CR-V Hybrid and will introduce another hybrid vehicle in the country by year-end.

Billy also disclosed Honda’s plans for local production expansion to support electrification.

This move is crucial to meet consumer demand and facilitate the growth of electric vehicle usage in Indonesia.

Honda is actively conducting electric vehicle research in Indonesia, including collaboration with the University of Indonesia (UI) in the fields of education and electric technology research using the Honda-e electric vehicle.

In addition to the partnership with UI, Honda is collaborating with Pertamina Patra Niaga and Pertamina New Renewable Energy for research on electric vehicle usage in urban commercial activities.
